Giller Achieves NCAA Qualifying Standard to Lead Men’s Track in California

LA VERNE, Calif. – The Florida Southern College men's track team traveled to California for a pair of meets Friday including the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa, Calif. and the Leopard Distance Carnival in La Verne, Calif. Sophomore Christian Giller led the way as he became the first Moccasin in 2024 to achieve an NCAA Qualifying Standard as he posted the third fastest 10,000m time in program history.

TOP PERFORMERS
  • Sophomore Christian Giller was the final Moccasin in action late Friday night as he competed in the 10,000m at the Leopard Distance Classic. The Brandon, Fla. native completed the long distance race in 29:53.59 to surpass the NCAA Qualifying Standard of 30:19.08. The time earned him sixth overall Friday while ranking as the third fastest 10K time in program history.
  • Sophomore Chris Colavita also saw action in the 10,000m but he competed at the Bryan Clay Invitational. He completed the distance in 30:54.16 which ranks as the eighth fastest 10K time in program history. The mark earned Colavita 37th overall Friday.
  • A trio of Moccasins saw action in the 5,000m at the Leopard Distance Carnival. Sophomore Anthony Matthew led the group as he placed 29th overall with the third fastest 5K time this season for the Mocs at 14:47.29. Senior Bryson Yamnitz finished just over two seconds later at 14:49.50 to place 33rd overall. Yamnitz's time ranks as the fourth-fastest this season for the Mocs. The final FSC competitor was graduate student Alex Guy who took 53rd overall while crossing the finish in 14:57.60, ranking as the seventh-best time this season for FSC.
 
UP NEXT:
The Moccasins will be back in action April 26-27 at the East Coast Relays hosted by the University of North Florida.
