Pair of Top-10 All-Time Performances Highlight Day One at East Coast Relays

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Florida Southern College men's track team opened up the East Coast Relays Friday night in Jacksonville, Fla. with a pair of top-10 all-time performances being set. Sophomores Caleb Brady and Christian Giller led the way with top-10 finishes on the track and etching top-10 times into the FSC record book.

TOP PERFORMERS
  • Graduate student Alex Guy led a group of five Moccasins in the opening event of the evening for FSC, the 1,500m. Guy posted the fifth best time this season for the Mocs and a personal season best of 3:55.10 to take 16th in the event. Senior Bryson Yamnitz came across nine spots back in 25th as he earned the ninth-best time this season at 3:59.22. The next to Mocs placed 27th and 28th, respectively. Sophomore Chris Colavita crossed the finish in 4:00.43 for the 10th best time this season and a personal season best while classmate Anthony Matthew came in just four tenths of a second later at 4:00.88. The final FSC competitor in the event was freshman Cole Summers who took 31st after crossing the finish in 4:01.50.
  • The next event on the docket for the Mocs was the 3,000m steeplechase where FSC sent four runners to the starting line. Sophomore Caleb Brady posted a top-10 finish as he crossed the line 10th overall at 9:37.08. The time ranks as a season-best for Brady and the top-time this season for FSC and also ranks eight all-time in program history. Freshman Dillon Mantei came in three spots back as he posted a time of 9:44.03 which ranks as the second-best time this season for FSC and also ranks as a season-best performance for the freshman. Freshman William Canales saw his first action in the event this season and posted the sixth best time for the Mocs in 2024 at 10:18.40 while taking 14th overall. Freshman Jaden Rapp was also a first time steeplechaser and earned the seventh best time this season for the Mocs as he stopped the clock at 10:18.43 to place 15th.
  • Sophomore Christian Giller competed in the 5,000m Invite where he was one of just two NCAA Division II competitors in the field. The Brandon, Fla, native took fifth overall while posting the fourth best time in program history at 14:27.80.   
  • Freshman Connor Brooks led a trio of FSC runners in the 5,000m as he took 18th overall with a personal season best time of 15:46.41. The final two FSC runners on the track were senior Luke Dickinson and junior James Simpson. Dickinson stopped the clock at 16:18.10 to take 27th while Simpson came across in 16:34.86 while placing 29th.

The Moccasins will close out action at the East Coast Relays tomorrow afternoon.
