LAKELAND, Fla. – Head coach
Gerry Lucey has released the 2024 Florida Southern College women's soccer schedule, announced Wednesday, July 17.
The Moccasins will face 18 games in the 2024 slate and eight of those matches will take place at Berend Field. FSC will have two Georgia trips mixed in with the regular Sunshine State Conference opponents, with three matchups new to program history.
"I'm very excited for the 2024 season and I believe we have set ourselves a difficult out-of-conference schedule," said Lucey. "This year, I expect we will be better equipped to challenge these programs and push ourselves up the ladder. I believe our returning players will push the incoming group to increase our competitiveness."
Florida Southern will open the 2024 season on the road, facing Georgia Southwestern on Thursday, Sept. 5, with a matchup against Columbus State University on Sept. 7, all at the CSU campus in Columbus, Ga. In the first head-to-head game against Columbus State since 2012, the Mocs will face GSW for the first time in program history.
The home opener for the Mocs will be on Friday, Sept. 13, as the Mocs host Bentley University, followed by Assumption University on Sunday, Sept. 15, for a midday start. Both matchups, Bentley and Assumption, will be firsts for the program.
The final out-of-state trip for FSC will be to Milledgeville, Ga. as the Mocs face Georgie College and State University on Wednesday, Sept. 18, also the final matchup before conference play.
The SSC schedule opens for the Moccasins on the road in Boca Raton, against Lynn University on Saturday, Sept. 21, followed by a road game against Saint Leo University on Wednesday, Sept. 25. The Mocs will then take on Polk State College on Sunday, Sept. 29, for a matchup at Polk State's field here in Lakeland.
The conference home opener will be against Eckerd College on Wednesday, Oct. 2, with a weekend road trip to West Palm Beach for Palm Beach Atlantic University on Saturday, Oct. 5. Rollins College will travel to Lakeland on Wednesday, Oct. 9, before taking the weekend off to prepare for a Wednesday, Oct. 16 game at the University of Tampa.
FSC will host three straight home games with Florida Tech on Saturday, Oct. 19, a midweek matchup against Polk State on Wednesday, Oct. 23, and a Saturday night contest against Nova Southeastern University on Oct. 26.
An SSC semifinal rematch on the road to Embry-Riddle will take place on Wednesday, Oct. 30, with the final home game of the regular season against Barry University on Saturday, Nov. 2. The last game of the regular season will be on the road to Edward Waters in Jacksonville pm Wednesday, Nov. 6.
MORE FROM COACH LUCEY
"We added three Peach Belt Conference opponents who will provide stiff opposition in the early season, including Columbus State University, who has been a top program nationally for the past 17 years. A couple of Northeast 10 schools in Bentley and Assumption will also be tough opponents as we begin the home slate of games. Outside of those PBC and Northeast games, we play a couple of in-state rivals in Polk State and Edward Waters, to continue to test our team. As usual, the SSC will be difficult to navigate with some quality teams and coaching. I am looking forward to the upcoming season and seeing how we evolve."
