Two School Records Fall at UT Track Classic

TAMPA, Fla. – Sophomore Ellie Fluman of the Florida Southern women's track team and senior Mason Jones of the men's team led the way Saturday night at the UT Track Classic as they both set school records in the 3,000m. Fluman took seventh overall in her event but still surpassed the school mark by over three seconds while Jones took home the victory while also surpassing the previous school record by nearly four seconds.

TOP PERFORMERS
FLORIDA SOUTHERN WOMEN:
  • Fluman led the Mocs as she took home a school record in the 3,000m while placing seventh overall in 10:18.43. The time surpassed Ysabella Guerra's (2018-21) record of 10:21.85. FLuman led a group of eight Mocs in the event. Freshman Emma Mussante crossed the finish next for the Mocs as she set a freshman record for the program after stopping the watch at 10:27.06 which placed her 11th. The time also ranks as the fourth fastest 3,000m time in program history. Freshman Marisa Kortright also surpassed the previous freshman record in the event as she turned in the 11th fastest time ever in program history at 10:31.86 while finishing 14th. Sophomore Jinia Johnson and senior Alayna Goll rounded out the top-20 finishers. Johnson took 17th after crossing the line in 10:45.56 while Goll placed 19th and just under two seconds back in 10:47.09  The final three Moc finishers were freshman Karah McElhone (26th/11:02.60), freshman Chloe Hacker (37th/11:40.22) and freshman Emily Opalinski (41st/11:59.40).
  • Junior Rebecca Ramsay picked up the lone individual victory on the night as she topped the field in the 100m with a blazing time of 13.53 which ranks fourth in the all-time records for the Mocs.
  • Sophomore Capri Procopio turned in the sixth fastest 200m time in program history as she placed seventh in the event in a time of 27.68.
  • Sophomore Carolina Titus led a group of five Mocs in the 1,500m. Titus placed seventh overall after stopping the clock in 4:56.17. Freshman Julia Svartstrom came across next in 11th overall at 5:01.02. Freshman Mya Stam finished two spots back in 13th after completing the distance in 5:05.30. Sophomore Sophie Barth and senior Kate Hanna rounded out the Moc competitors in the event. Barth took 15th in 5:07.29 while Hanna placed 30th in 6:17.83.
  • The final event of the night for the women was the 4x400m relay. Procopio, Barth, Ramsay and Svartstrom teamed up to take third overall with the seventh fastest time in program history at 4:23.82.
 
FLORIDA SOUTHERN MEN:
  • Jones led a group of 13 Moccasins in the 3,000m as he topped the 54-member field with a school record time of 8:24.24. The mark surpassed teammate and graduate student Joshua Wagner who had the previous record of 8:28.19 which he ran last season at Embry-Riddle. Wagner finished three spots back in fourth overall with the seventh best time in program history at 8:34.15. Fellow graduate student Mitchell Kozik came across next with an 11th place finish in 8:44.68. Sophomore Bryson Yamnitz finished two spots back in 13th after stopping the clock in 8:51.27. Freshman Caden Kwiatkowski picked up a top-20 finish in 18th after crossing the finish in 8:54.63. The final eight Moc finishers were sophomore Owen Allen (21st/8:56.99), junior David Pautienus (25th/9:05.93), sophomore Noah Ellenback (27th/9:07.28), freshman Seth Augustynowski (28th/9:08.70), sophomore Zach Dale (30th/9:11.44), freshman Aiden Redmond (34th/9:14.95), sophomore Luke Dickinson (41st/9:18.90) and freshman James Simpson (43rd/9:20.43).
  • Wagner earned a second place finish in the 1,500m as he completed the distance in 3:56.56. Junior Alex Guy joined him in the race taking seventh overall at 4:02.52.
  • Guy returned to the track for the 800m and took seventh once again after completing the two laps in 2:00.80. Freshman Jaylen Caneus came in one spot back in eight at 2:01.10.

The Moccasins return to action Friday, March 4 at the UT Distance Classic hosted by the University of Tampa.
