TAMPA, Fla. – The Florida Southern men's track team opened its 2024 outdoor campaign Saturday night in Tampa at the Tampa Spartans Open. The Moccasins dealt with rain throughout the night and wet track conditions but that did not stop freshman
Timothy Schultz from winning his outdoor track debut as he claimed the 1500m crown. Overall the Moccasins earned 12 top-10 finishes over five events.

TOP PERFORMERS
- Freshman Timothy Schultz opened up the 2024 outdoor track season by winning the opening event as he led a group of four Moccasins in the 1500m. Schultz took the top spot after completing the distance in 4:16.69. Classmate Declan Ziomek also made his outdoor track debut and earned a top-five finish placing fourth in the event with a time of 4:24.27. The parade of debuts continued as freshman Dillon Mantei earned a top-10 finish in his very first event taking ninth at 4:28.41. The final Moc in the event was senior Tyler Gulluscio who crossed the line 14th while clocking in at 4:35.95.
- Sophomore Luke Reeves was the lone FSC representative in the 400m as he took 12th overall after rounding the track in 55.18.
- Senior Bryson Yamnitz led a group of six Mocs in the 800m as he just missed out on a victory taking second overall in 2:00.90, just 22 hundredths of a second behind the winner. Sophomore Christian Giller and junior Jaylen Caneus finished back-to-back in seventh and eighth, respectively. Giller crossed the line in 2:04.55 while Caneus completed his two laps in 2:07.69. Reeves entered his second event of the night and took 13th, one spot behind his 12th place finish in the 400m. Reeves clocked in at 2:14.40. The final two finishers for the Mocs were also repeat performers as Mantei took 15th at 2:16.41 while Gulluscio placed 17th in 2:18.03.
- Freshman Cole Summers continued the string of strong debuts for the freshmen of the 2024 FSC track team. The rookie placed sixth in the 3000m to lead a group of eight Mocs in the event while clocking in at 8:49.71. Sophomore Luke Kaelin finished one spot back in seventh while completing the distance in 8:52.58. Freshman Dylan Bailey finished just two spots out of a top-10 finish as he took 12th after turning in a time of 8:56.43. Fellow freshman William Canales finished just outside the top-20 as he took 22nd in 9:02.01. The final four Moccasin finishers were freshman Cameron Raney (30th, 9:10.85), Schultz (39th, 9:22.43), freshman Connor Brooks (40th, 9:23.52) and junior James Simpson (41st, 9:25.97).
- In the final event of the night for the Mocs, FSC earned four top-10 finishes as sophomore Anthony Matthew led the way with a second place finish in the 5000m. The Stuart, Fla. native finished eight seconds behind the winner. Graduate student Alex Guy finished four spots back in sixth at 15:01.37 while junior Aiden Redmond came in eighth while stopping the clock at 15:19.15. The final Moccasin finisher of the night was junior Seth Augustynowski who took 10th overall while crossing the line in 15:29.27.
