Brett Tomko played just one season (1995) at Florida Southern, but it’s doubtful that he could have accomplished any more than he did in that one season. He was the first player ever to be named the NCAA Division II Pitcher and Player of the Year by the American Baseball Coaches Association. He was named the outstanding player of the Division II championship, leading the Moccasins to their eighth national title with a complete-game shutout in the championship game. He was the Sunshine State Conference Pitcher of the Year and Male Athlete of the Year. He went 15-2 with a 1.35 ERA, seven complete games, three shutouts, two saves and 154 strikeouts in 126.3 innings. Cincinnati drafted him in the second round of the 1995 Major League Draft. He made his big league debut with the Reds on May 27, 1997, and has been in the major leagues ever since. He finished his 14-year Major League career with exactly 100 wins.
