ROCCO MEDIATE
Men’s Golf, 1983-84

One of four former Moccasins playing on the PGA Tour, Rocco Mediate wrapped up his collegiate career as a two-time All-American, including a first-team nod in 1984. In 1982, he led the Moccasins with a 74.89 stroke average over 19 rounds and then led the 1983 Mocs with a 72.66 stroke average over 30 rounds. In 1983, Mediate finished 11th at the NCAA’s and was a member of the Mocs’ 1982 NCAA Division II National Championship Team. Named to the SSC Hall of Fame in 2003, Mediate turned pro in 1985 and in 1991 became the first player on the PGA Tour to win using a long-putter, taking the Doral Open. He has won five PGA events, including the 2002 Greater Greensboro Chrysler Open (only the seventh player to twice win the Greater Greensboro Open, having also won in 1993) and finished the 2002 season ranked 22nd on the money list with over two million dollars. In 2002 he joined former Moccasin teammate and fellow FSC Sports Hall of Fame member, Lee Janzen, to win the Franklin Templeton Shootout.
