George Jenkins enters the Hall of Fame as a honorary member. This award has been created by Florida Southern College to honor special individuals who have proven to be truly committed to the college’s student-athletes and the school’s athletic program through generous contributions of time and/or resources. The founder of Publix Super Markets, George Jenkins' union with the college began in 1956 when he served as honorary chancellor of Florida Southern College, an honor reserved for prominent men and women in various walks of life. In 1966, the Mocs dedicated their new field house in his honor. The FSC athletics teams have benefited from the use of his golf course, The Lone Palm Golf Course, as either the site for competition or its use for various fund-raising events.
