BRIAN BAIN
Men’s Soccer, 1966-69

Brian Bain, who died in October at the age of 61, was one of the best goalkeepers in the history of FSC men’s soccer. He started as a freshman and remains the only four-year starting goalkeeper in the program’s history. Earning All-America recognition as a sophomore in 1967, he set a school record that stood for 30 years with a 1.20 goals against average. He posted nine career shutouts and a career 1.82 GAA, records that stood for 28 years. His numbers still have him ranked in the top three of every FSC goalkeeping category. He was the Moccasins’ team MVP in 1968. Following his soccer career at FSC, he became well known in Polk County for his work with high school sports, particularly volleyball and wrestling. He was a key figure in helping to bring the state championship tournaments in those two sports to Lakeland. He taught in Polk County schools for 35 years and was instrumental in scheduling officials for volleyball and wrestling. In 2001 he was inducted into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame.
