DENISE (SANSCRAINTE) FABER
Women’s Basketball, 1978-81, Volleyball, 1977-80

Denise Sanscrainte Faber is one of the school’s original three women’s scholarship athletes and played three sports during her time at Florida Southern. She starred for four years in both volleyball (1977-80) and basketball (1978-81) and also played softball in 1981. In her basketball career, she played in 76 games and remains second on the school’s all-time list for rebounds per game (10.2) and is sixth on the school’s career rebound chart with 774 boards. She was the team’s leading rebounder in each of her four seasons, including averaging 11.5 rebounds per game as a freshman in 1977-78 and 11.4 rebounds per game as a sophomore in 1978-79. The team’s leading scorer as a junior, Faber scored 249 points and averaged 11.3 points per game in 1980 and was named the team’s MVP in 1978 and 1980. As a volleyball player, she was an All-Region selection as a sophomore in 1978 and was an All-State performer as a junior in 1979. Serving as the volleyball team’s co-captain in 1979, she was the Team MVP in 1979 and 1980 and helped lead the Moccasins to three AIAW National Tournament appearances. Faber earned her bachelor’s degree from FSC in 1981 and was inducted into the Fort Lauderdale Cardinal Gibbons Catholic High School Athletics Hall of Fame in 2006. As an assistant coach at Cardinal Gibbons, she helped guide her team to state championships 14 times.
