R. FRED LEWIS
Basketball, 1965-69

Playing in the Florida Intercollegiate Conference, the fore-runner to the Sunshine State Conference, Fred Lewis was named to the All-American team as well as the All-FIC squad in 1969. Selected as one of the Top 15 Scholar-Athletes of the Year by the NCAA in 1969, Lewis was a recipient of a NCAA post-graduate scholarship. Chosen as FSC’s top athlete as a senior, he was named the 1969 FSC Honor Walk Student, the highest accolade afforded to a FSC student. Active in school activities, Lewis also played baseball and ran track. Following his graduation from FSC in 1969, he went on to receive high honors from the University of Miami School of Law. Recipient of the 2000 FSC Alumni Achievement Citation, he received an honorary Doctorate of Public Service from FSC in 2001. A member of FSC Board of Trustees, Lewis has served as a justice on the Florida Supreme Court since 1998.
